Ehrenberg Castle Ensemble
This afternoon was free time, but the guides arranged an optional trip to the Ehrenberg Castle. Amy and I were looking forward to this excursion but got sidetracked tasting schnapps in the hotel bar and missed the bus. Fortunately, the hotel desk called us a taxi that took us to the parking lot where our group was dropped off. We sprinted up the trail and soon caught up with the group. We were so glad we did not miss this exciting afternoon. There were amazing panoramic views, medieval castle ruins, a suspension footbridge, wine, beer, and Rick's talk about the history of the area.

Our last night in Austria consisted of a sumptuous dinner, unique entertainment provided by two accordion and guitar players that included lots of audience participation, plenty of schnapps and loads of laughter! We were up and off early for a long bus ride to Venice. The amazing thing about our bus rides was the time goes by fast as the drive is scenic. Rick, Trish, and Ben enlighten us with history, interesting facts, and amazing stories. Rick told about how he started out guiding many years ago when he drove the van and guided. He picked up a hitchhiker who taught the group how to yodel. Afterwards, Rick demonstrated his yodeling skills for us! What a hoot. Along the way, we were treated to local snacks, candies, cheeses, pastries and drinks. Trish even organized an open DJ time on the bus for tour members to choose what songs to listen to. Our bus driver Richard was not only an excellent driver, he was truly part of the experience, willing to share stories about his life while eating with the group. He was a dapper dresser, almost like he had a closet full of freshly ironed clothes hidden somewhere in his bus.
